Modern Warfare 3 has completely changed the expectations bar for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series for the better. It has most improved in the Special Ops game mode, in which there is now Survivor Mode, in which the player has to fight off an unlimited number of enemy waves. Special Ops also now has the option to play online with friends and other people in either the Xbox Network or the PlayStation Network depending on the game console the player owns, or also over a regular internet network if the game is played on a computer. The multiplayer section has a few new "perks" for the player, but the main improvement is the new "killstreak" rewards and the ability to play split-screen while playing online multiplayer.
The game has managed to make more money in the first five days after its release than any other piece of entertainment in the history of the world, grossing $775 million, nearly four times the gross of the topfive-day earner in the film industry, The Dark Knight, which managed a gross of $204 Million in its opening five days.
I own the three Modern Warfare Games and I definitely feel that this one has exceeded the standard of the two other games in all the ways, apart from the campaign mode in the first Modern Warfare which is the best of all three.
The 8th season of House, M.D. premiered October 3rd on Fox. Up tonow it has released eight excellent episodes of which I have watched all. The TV show is about Gregory House's medical feats at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. House is the boss of a team of diagnosticians, which by episode eight are; Dr. Chris Taub (Peter Jacobson), Dr. Jessica Adams (Odette Annable), Dr. Robert Chase (Jesse Spencer) and Dr. Chi Park (Charlyne Yi). The season starts with Dr. House in prison after he was jailed for having crashed a car into a house. The next episode House is released after Eric Foreman, the dean of medicine at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, demands for House to be released as he is needed for a medical case. At first, when House relocates back to his hospital he finds that his office has been taken and that he now only has one doctor working for him, Dr. Park. After a few episodes House manages to fund his workplace and he recruits the other doctors. The TV show is considered a Medical drama as it also has a interlined story of the relationships between the main characters of the show. House's best friend is called Dr. James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) which is an oncologist at the hospital. I think the new season has accomplished the expectations I have on how House M.D. should be.
Yesterday night I finished reading a book called The Street Lawyer by the acclaimed author, John Grisham. I liked the book substantially, even though I didn't like the ending, as it was not concrete - very open. Judging by the name, the book is obviously about a street lawyer, which doesn't surprise me, as John Grisham is a lawyer and most of his books are legal thrillers. John Grisham's most famous titles include; The Firm, The Chamber, The Client, A Painted House, The Pelican Brief, The Rainmaker, The Runway Jury and A Time to Kill.
The book tells the story of an antitrust lawyer named Michael Brock, who works at a big firm in Washington D.C. called Drake and Sweeney. The plot begins when a homeless man that calls himself "Mister" enters the offices of Drake and Sweeney and takes as hostages about a dozen of the lawyers at the firm. As he is at the office he gives the hostages a lecture about homelessness and about the general greed of the American higher class asking them as proof how much they earn per year in comparison to what they give to charity or other non-profit organizations. Finally at the end of that day "Mister" is shot by a police sniper and the hostages are rescued. Consummated by the need to understand what he learned from this incident, Michael reaches to a man called Mordecai Green, an advocate for the homeless who asks him to help him one night at a homeless shelter. Here Michael becomes more sympathetic for the homeless. A few days later Mordecai asks him to join him at the 14th Street Legal Clinic, the legal clinic which is owned by Mordecai. Michael finally quits his job at Drake and Sweeney to enter his new job at the 14th Street Legal Clinic meaning he has to abandon a 400 thousand dollar annual salary for a 15 thousand dollar annual salary. Simultaneously, Michael takes a file illegally from Drake and Sweeney regarding an illegal eviction done by a lawyer at the firm in which Mister was involved. He tries to copy the file and then take it back to the firm, but while heading to an office to make the copy he is embraced in a car accident which delays his fleet and causes the lawyer involved with the case to realize the file was stolen. At his new firm Michael manages to attend many clients in need, much who just needed someone to talk with. At the end of the book Michael produces a legal case against the illegal eviction in which he succeeds a a major settlement with Drake and Sweeney for all the damages caused by the eviction, then Drake and Sweeney demand him for the robbery of the file in which he accepts his license to practice law to be suspended for six months and to return the file.
Paranormal Activity 3 rocked the box office friday night in the US with a whopping $54 million debut - largest debut ever for a horror movie, consequently breaking the $40.7 million record Paranormal Activity 2 set last year and the record for an october release set by Jackass 3D for $50.35 million. The first Paranormal Activity distinguished itself two years go for its record-breaking 196+ million return on a mere $15,000 investment (655,506% return on investment). The sequel didn't go as well as it was made on a $3 million budget and managed to make $177+ million, but still good enough to make a sequel - Paranormal Activity 3.
Paranormal Activity 3 is a actually a prequel to the other two movies in terms of the storyline; it's the camera film the characters in the movie find from when they were little in 1988. The film explains how the scary "activity" began in the house.
Although the film has managed a $54 million debut, the viewers have not been very happy with the movie; in Metacritic it has a 59 out of 100 score, in IMDb a 6.7 out of 10 score and in Rotten Tomatoes it has a 73% approval rate.
On the next weeks we will see if it lives to the expectations of the viewers and manages to overpass the first movie's box office. For now it has been the first horror movie this year to manage a huge box office - lets hope there are more to come this year.
As of today, 10/19/11, the top song in the Billboard Hot 100 chart is Someone Like You by the 23 year old British singer Adele. This song took hold of the #1 position on 10/15/11 replacing Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5, and has been in the chart for 14 weeks.
Someone Like You was released on January 24 2011 under the album 21; also currently in a Billboard chart - the Billboard 200. The album has prevailed the prestigious albums chart for 33 weeks; never below the #4 position, and has been on the #1 position various times - currently it stands on position #2. The album has managed 4x Platinum(4,000,000 copies shipped)in the US and 10x Platinum(3,000,000 copies shipped)in the UK.
Someone Like You has penetrated many other charts apart from the Billboard charts including the UK Singles Chart, the Australian Singles Chart and the New Zealand Singles Chart. The song gained a surge in popularity after Adele performed at the MTV Video Music Awards shortly after the single for the song was released in the US.
Adele said that the song was written shortly after her breakup of the 18 month relationship with a 30 year old man she thought she would marry. She said "We were so intense I thought we would get married. But that was
something he never wanted ...So when I found out he does want that with
someone else, it was just the horrible-est feeling ever. But after I
wrote it, I felt more at peace. It set me free ... I didn't think it
would resonate ... with the world! I'm never gonna write a song like
that again. I think that's the song I'll be known for."
She also said that "I wrote that song on the end of my bed. I had a
cold. I was waiting for my bath to run. I'd found out that he'd got
engaged."
Although Adele thought the song wouldn't resonate it is clear now that it did, evidence being that the song is currently at the peak of the most distinguished chart in the world - the Billboard 100.
Modern Family is probably the most entertaining comedy TV show I've ever seen. It's probably a bit too late to write about this as it debuted on September 23, 2009 but I felt the need as I first saw it last week and found it hilariously funny; I have seen ten episodes since then - ten episodes which have gotten me completely hooked.
The TV show is about the daily life of a modern family, all related by Jay Prittchet who is the father of Claire Dunphy and Mitchell Prittchet. Claire is married to Phil Dunphy and have three children; Haley, Alex and Luke. Mitchell is the partner of Cameron "Cam" Tucker and they are both Lilly´s fathers which is uncommon as they are both men, exactly what makes the show more interesting and makes a more precise modern family. Jay is currently married to Gloria Prittchet who has a child named Manny Delgado whose father is Javier Delgado; ex-husband of Gloria. Jay´s ex-wife, and mother of Mitchell and Claire is called DeDe Pritchett.
What makes the TV show so hilarious is the day to day in-functionality of the family lead by the homosexuality of Cam and Mitchell which is highly unaccepted by Jay, the common fights between Jay, Gloria and Manny as Gloria and Manny who are both Colombian want to have a more Colombian culture inside the household, the fights between Haley, Alex and Luke who all have opposite character; Haley being the typical party girl, Alex being a very stereo-typical geek which has a developed skill in manipulation, and finally Luke, the "pacifist" little boy in the house. Cam and Mitchell are always fighting about how to handle their homosexuality and how to raise their little girl Lilly.
The series a Comedy-drama depicted in mockumentary (mock documentary) style in which the characters talk directly into the cameras during many situations. The show premiered to 12.61 million viewers in 2009 and is currently undergoing it´s third season; each season being 24 one hour (including commercials) episodes. The show is made by abc and is broadcasted on their channel at 9 PM eastern time.
I am a 14 year old boy living in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, where I study at an international school. I was born on October 29, 1996 also in Caracas. I am a huge fan of music and I play the drum set and guitar (I own an Epiphone Les Paul). I am not allowed to write my name on the blog, but people call me Nacho so that's how I will appear here. That's enough about me - let me talk about the blog now!
What is the Blog about?
Plain Entertainment is going to be the place everyone will go to first for entertainment information, reviews and recommendations (at least that’s what I hope for). It will contain everything ranging from music, to film and TV, and even YouTube video reviews and recommendations. These entries will not only contain my response to the media, but also the general public's response. I hope you all enjoy reading this as much as I will writing it.
Why am I doing this project?
The teacher told us today that we had to make a blog as a 9th grade English project in which we chose the category. At first I saw this as something I had to do, an obligation because of school, but as I got in to it I started to get excited and realized I was also doing it for me. How cool is that, a project you have to do for school but that you also enjoy doing.
When will I post the first entry?
I'm not completely sure when will I post for the first time excluding this introduction, but it'll sure be soon, so remember to check the blog frequently.
