Paranormal Activity 3: Biggest Debut Ever for a Horror Movie

Paranormal Activity 3 rocked the box office friday night in the US with a whopping $54 million debut  - largest debut ever for a horror movie, consequently breaking the $40.7 million record Paranormal Activity 2 set last year and the record for an october release set by Jackass 3D for $50.35 million. The first Paranormal Activity distinguished itself two years go for its record-breaking 196+ million return on a mere $15,000 investment (655,506% return on investment). The sequel didn't go as well as it was made on a $3 million budget and managed to make $177+ million, but still good enough to make a sequel - Paranormal Activity 3.

Paranormal Activity 3 is a actually a prequel to the other two movies in terms of the storyline; it's the camera film the characters in the movie find from when they were little in 1988. The film explains how the  scary "activity" began in the house.

Although the film has managed a $54 million debut, the viewers have not been very happy with the movie; in Metacritic it has a 59 out of 100 score, in IMDb a 6.7 out of 10 score and in Rotten Tomatoes it has a 73% approval rate.

On the next weeks we will see if it lives to the expectations of the viewers and manages to overpass the first movie's box office. For now it has been the first horror movie this year to manage a huge box office - lets hope there are more to come this year.
