Paranormal Activity 3: Biggest Debut Ever for a Horror Movie

Paranormal Activity 3 rocked the box office friday night in the US with a whopping $54 million debut  - largest debut ever for a horror movie, consequently breaking the $40.7 million record Paranormal Activity 2 set last year and the record for an october release set by Jackass 3D for $50.35 million. The first Paranormal Activity distinguished itself two years go for its record-breaking 196+ million return on a mere $15,000 investment (655,506% return on investment). The sequel didn't go as well as it was made on a $3 million budget and managed to make $177+ million, but still good enough to make a sequel - Paranormal Activity 3.

Paranormal Activity 3 is a actually a prequel to the other two movies in terms of the storyline; it's the camera film the characters in the movie find from when they were little in 1988. The film explains how the  scary "activity" began in the house.

Although the film has managed a $54 million debut, the viewers have not been very happy with the movie; in Metacritic it has a 59 out of 100 score, in IMDb a 6.7 out of 10 score and in Rotten Tomatoes it has a 73% approval rate.

On the next weeks we will see if it lives to the expectations of the viewers and manages to overpass the first movie's box office. For now it has been the first horror movie this year to manage a huge box office - lets hope there are more to come this year.

Billboard Hot 100 Top Song Review

As of today, 10/19/11, the top song in the Billboard Hot 100 chart is Someone Like You by the 23 year old British singer Adele. This song took hold of the #1 position on 10/15/11 replacing Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5, and has been in the chart for 14 weeks.

Someone Like You was released on January 24 2011 under the album 21; also currently in a Billboard chart - the Billboard 200. The album has prevailed the prestigious albums chart for 33 weeks; never below the #4 position, and has been on the #1 position various times - currently it stands on position #2. The album has managed 4x Platinum (4,000,000 copies shipped) in the US and 10x Platinum (3,000,000 copies shipped) in the UK.

Someone Like You has penetrated many other charts apart from the Billboard charts including the UK Singles Chart, the Australian Singles Chart and the New Zealand Singles Chart. The song gained a surge in popularity after Adele performed at the MTV Video Music Awards shortly after the single for the song was released in the US.

Adele said that the song was written shortly after her breakup of the 18 month relationship with a 30 year old man she thought she would marry. She said "We were so intense I thought we would get married. But that was something he never wanted ...So when I found out he does want that with someone else, it was just the horrible-est feeling ever. But after I wrote it, I felt more at peace. It set me free ... I didn't think it would resonate ... with the world! I'm never gonna write a song like that again. I think that's the song I'll be known for." She also said that "I wrote that song on the end of my bed. I had a cold. I was waiting for my bath to run. I'd found out that he'd got engaged."

Although Adele thought the song wouldn't resonate it is clear now that it did, evidence being that the song is currently at the peak of the most distinguished chart in the world - the Billboard 100.

Modern Family

Modern Family is probably the most entertaining comedy TV show I've ever seen. It's probably a bit too late to write about this as it debuted on September 23, 2009 but I felt the need as I first saw it last week and found it hilariously funny; I have seen ten episodes since then - ten episodes which have gotten me completely hooked.

The TV show is about the daily life of a  modern family, all related by Jay Prittchet who is the father of Claire Dunphy and Mitchell Prittchet. Claire is married to Phil Dunphy and have three children; Haley, Alex and Luke. Mitchell is the partner of Cameron "Cam" Tucker and they are both Lilly´s fathers which is uncommon as they are both men, exactly what makes the show more interesting and makes a more precise modern family. Jay is currently married to Gloria Prittchet who has a child named Manny Delgado whose father is Javier Delgado; ex-husband of Gloria. Jay´s ex-wife, and mother of Mitchell and Claire is called DeDe Pritchett.

What makes the TV show so hilarious is the day to day in-functionality of the family lead by the homosexuality of Cam and Mitchell which is highly unaccepted by Jay, the common fights between Jay, Gloria and Manny as Gloria and Manny who are both Colombian want to have a more Colombian culture inside the household, the fights between Haley, Alex and Luke who all have opposite character; Haley being the typical party girl, Alex being a very stereo-typical geek which has a developed skill in manipulation, and finally Luke, the "pacifist" little boy in the house. Cam and Mitchell are always fighting about how to handle their homosexuality and how to raise their little girl Lilly.

The series a Comedy-drama depicted in mockumentary (mock documentary) style in which the characters talk directly into the cameras during many situations. The show premiered to 12.61 million viewers in 2009 and is currently undergoing it´s third season; each season being 24 one hour (including commercials) episodes. The show is made by abc and is broadcasted on their channel at 9 PM eastern time.
